The defendant was convicted and fined 20s. and costs - in all £2 14s. - and ordered to pay amount of the doctor's account for medical attendance to complainant in consequence of the assault. Charles Kingston was charged by Richard Sandycock with rescuing three cows while on their way to the Gumeracha pound. The charge was proved, and defendant fined 20s. and costs - in all £2 7s. [Obs 14/3/1868 7ef.] ADELAIDE HUNT CLUB. (By Rover.) The annual fixture at Gumeracha is always a popular one, but this year it was later than usual, and the majority of members had turned their horses out for the summer spell, consequently only a few left Adelaide at the appointed time. Our road was via Houghton, as Mr A.E. Ross had very kindly asked us to take lunch with him at Highercombe, where we arrived at 12 o'clock, and after doing full justice to the good things provided made a start at 1 o'clock for Gumeracha, which we reached about 2.30 p.m. Here we found a large contingent of the keen sports of the district assembled to welcome us. At 3 o'clock the Master took the pack in hand, and led up the road to the reserve, where on looking round I noticed the following regular riders:- The Master (Mr Allan Baker) on Kildare, Messrs A. Miller on Sportsman, A.J. Boase on Boomerang, A.J. Barker on Cardinal, F.H. Downer on Kingfish, A. Thomson on Blackboy, A.E. Ross on Dudu, A.E. Braund on Victor, and C. Sherard on Cheater; while the local division were ably represented by Messrs W. Formby on Sir John, W. Jenkins on Kilrush, F. Kingston on Lady Grey, G. Stott on Harkaway, McLean on Comrade, and Philp on a bay. The first three or four fences were really good post-and-rails, which the whole field jumped splendidly, and we were soon going over the hills at a racing pace. Wheeling to our left we crossed the main road, and then over a fence at the back of the township, where Dudu gave Mr Ross an ugly fall, but at the finish we were glad to learn that no bones were broken, a bad shaking being the extent of the injury. From here to the check, which took place in Mr Moore's paddock, the jumps were varied and thick, but all the horses were fencing faultlessly. During the breather of ten minutes I noticed all the original field was there, and when the Master again laid the hounds on it looked as if the run back to Gumeracha would be very merry, which indeed it was, as old Kildare, being on his very best behaviour, fairly reveled in climbing the hills, and when we again reached Gumeracha at 4.45 p.m. I think, although the horses were going very strong, they were not sorry to stop. All the local sportsmen worked very hard to make the meet a success, but a special word of praise is due to Mr W. Formby, who always goes to considerable trouble in picking out the runs. The club is also indebted to the following landowners, who cheerfully gave us permission to cross their property:- Captain Randell, Mrs Randell, Messrs Norsworthy, Gregory, Hannaford, Johnstone, Sandercock, Moore, Teakle, Lee, Kitto, Colman, Cornish, and Stott, and Mrs Scheck. In the evening we sat down to an excellent dinner provided for by about twenty of the local sportsmen. After punishing this very severely and honouring several toasts a pleasant social was spent, and we were quite sorry at 10 o'clock to bid our guests goodbye and start back for Adelaide, feeling sure that no trouble had been spared to make us enjoy the outing. Lady Hampton, Gazelle, Silverhock, and Lockleys also stripped for the tussle, the betting being even on Vanity and 3 to 1 against Lockleys. Lockleys and Silverhock broke away from a false start and galloped fully half a mile before they were pulled up. Lockleys led the first time past the post, Gazelle being second, Vanity fourth, and the gray last. At the rise Lockleys ran off into the scrub, considerably bruising his rider by colliding with some bushes. Vanity then took the lead and the issue was never afterwards in doubt, Fiddler under the whip getting the better of Norchy for second place. HARTLEY VALE. - On Thursday Messrs Homburg and Stirling, members for Gumeracha, with Messrs Sandercock, Teakle, and Johnson, waited on the Minister of Education, and requested that a public school be established at Hartley Vale. The nearest schools were Gumeracha, 3 miles distant, and Lobethal, nearly 4 miles. The younger children could not travel the distance. There was a suitable building, and if a school were opened about forty children would attend. Mr Johnson replied that he would enquire into the case and see what could be done. [8/12/1888 29c.] ADELAIDE HUNT CLUB. (By Rover.) The annual fixture at Gumeracha is always a popular one, but this year it was later than usual, and the majority of members had turned their horses out for the summer spell, consequently only a few left Adelaide at the appointed time. Our road was via Houghton, as Mr A.E. Ross had very kindly asked us to take lunch with him at Highercombe, where we arrived at 12 o'clock, and after doing full justice to the good things provided made a start at 1 o'clock for Gumeracha, which we reached about 2.30 p.m. Here we found a large contingent of the keen sports of the district assembled to welcome us. At 3 o'clock the Master took the pack in hand, and led up the road to the reserve, where on looking round I noticed the following regular riders:- The Master (Mr Allan Baker) on Kildare, Messrs A. Miller on Sportsman, A.J. Boase on Boomerang, A.J. Barker on Cardinal, F.H. Downer on Kingfish, A. Thomson on Blackboy, A.E. Ross on Dudu, A.E. Braund on Victor, and C. Sherard on Cheater; while the local division were ably represented by Messrs W. Formby on Sir John, W. Jenkins on Kilrush, F. Kingston on Lady Grey, G. Stott on Harkaway, McLean on Comrade, and Philp on a bay. The first three or four fences were really good post-and-rails, which the whole field jumped splendidly, and we were soon going over the hills at a racing pace. Wheeling to our left we crossed the main road, and then over a fence at the back of the township, where Dudu gave Mr Ross an ugly fall, but at the finish we were glad to learn that no bones were broken, a bad shaking being the extent of the injury. From here to the check, which took place in Mr Moore's paddock, the jumps were varied and thick, but all the horses were fencing faultlessly. During the breather of ten minutes I noticed all the original field was there, and when the Master again laid the hounds on it looked as if the run back to Gumeracha would be very merry, which indeed it was, as old Kildare, being on his very best behaviour, fairly reveled in climbing the hills, and when we again reached Gumeracha at 4.45 p.m. I think, although the horses were going very strong, they were not sorry to stop. All the local sportsmen worked very hard to make the meet a success, but a special word of praise is due to Mr W. Formby, who always goes to considerable trouble in picking out the runs. The club is also indebted to the following landowners, who cheerfully gave us permission to cross their property:ñ Captain Randell, Mrs Randell, Messrs Norsworthy, Gregory, Hannaford, Johnstone, Sandercock, Moore, Teakle, Lee, Kitto, Colman, Cornish, and Stott, and Mrs Scheck. In the evening we sat down to an excellent dinner provided for by about twenty of the local sportsmen. After punishing this very severely and honouring several toasts a pleasant social was spent, and we were quite sorry at 10 o'clock to bid our guests goodbye and start back for Adelaide, feeling sure that no trouble had been spared to make us enjoy the outing. On Sunday, 16 September 1923 he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Emily Edith (Bond) Sandercock, daughter of the late Frederick Dennant Bond formerly of Payneham, South Australia, Australia and the late Sarah Ann (Fassett) formerly of Payneham, South Australia, Australia.
